UK/home tuition fees
If you're a UK/home student you'll find information about tuition fees for each year of study here. This includes undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research, and non-standard course fees

Tuition fee increase 2025
From 1 August 2025 fees will rise for UK/home undergraduate students from £9,250 per year, to £9,535 per year. UK/home students in this instance relate to UK and EU settled and pre-settled students (home fee status).
If you're a UK/home student, you won't see higher monthly repayments. The amount you would repay each year is calculated solely on what you earn, not what you borrow.
In addition, UK/home students’ maintenance loans will rise by 3.1% in line with inflation. This means you'll be able to borrow a maximum of £414 extra funding for each year starting from academic year 2025/26. A maintenance loan is paid directly to you and is intended for living costs such as accommodation and food. The amount you can claim for maintenance loans will continue to be means tested.
EU/international students or postgraduate students are not affected by this announcement. These fees have already been set by the university and published for 2025/26 academic year.
Why have the Government increased the fees?
Tuition fees have remained largely the same for 12 years and in that time inflation has risen significantly. This means that the money universities receive from your fees is effectively worth much less than it was years ago. This has reduced our ability to fund the infrastructure to deliver your course and support your learning as effectively as we would like.
Despite the fee increase, it's important to remember that investing in a degree remains fantastic value for money. You are the skilled workforce of the future. Industry figures show that by age 31, graduate salaries are 37% more than their counterparts who didn’t go to university (Universities UK, 2024).

If you're continuing on the same course you'll pay the same tuition fees for each year of your study, based on the year you start. This is subject to any applicable inflationary increase.

Find out about additional costsFunding and loans
In the UK, you can access higher education through a range of loan and funding options. There are loans available from the Government for undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate research degrees.
Tuition fee loan
All UK full-time students can apply for an undergraduate loan to cover their tuition fees. If you normally live in England, you'll need to apply via Student Finance England. They will check your eligibility and that of your chosen course. If you're eligible, Student Finance England will pay your tuition fees straight to your university. You won't need to pay anything upfront.
If you normally live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland you will have different support available.
Maintenance loan
Maintenance loans are also available from Student Finance England to help with day-to-day living costs, such as rent and bills. You can apply for the loan whatever your living situation is. For example if you're staying in student accommodation or living at home and commuting.
Maintenance loans are based on your household income. If eligible, then the maintenance loan is paid direct into your bank account. You'll need to pay the loan back once you've graduated and are earning enough.
Whilst tuition fees will increase for 2025/26, so will the maintenance loan. This means that you will be entitled to up to £414 more per year starting in 2025/26.
How to apply
The application process is simple. You can find out more and apply on the Student Finance England website.
You will only start to repay both your tuition fee and maintenance loans once you are working and earning enough. Visit the student loan repayment site for more information.
Postgraduate master's loan
If you’re thinking of studying a master’s degree, you could be eligible for a loan from the Government to help you study. This will help cover tuition fees and living costs and is paid directly to you. If your course lasts for more than one year, your loan will be divided over each year. Find out more on the Student Finance England website.
You'll start paying the loan back once you're working and earning over a certain amount, just like the undergraduate loans. You can find out more on the Government website.
Funding is different if you normally live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
Funding and discounts
Some universities may off scholarships or bursaries for postgraduate study. For example, if you previously studied at undergraduate level. We offer an Alumni Loyalty Discount to our graduates for most postgraduate courses.
Doctoral loan
If you want to study a postgraduate research degree as a UK/home student, you might be eligible for a postgraduate doctoral loan from the Government. This can help with course fees and living costs.
You'll start repaying the loan once you're working and earning over the specified threshold.
Funding will be different if you normally live in Wales.
Studentships
Studentships are a funded opportunity which link to a specific research project. Funding is is only available to PhD students working on that specific funded project or one that is open to any applicants in a specified field. Many universities offer studentships but they can be competitive. Find out more about our studentships.
