Frequently asked questions
At a University of Central Lancashire Open Day you can expect a day filled with exploration, insight, and inspiration. It's the perfect chance to get your questions answered, from course details and career options, to accomodation, finance, and student life.
We have lots on offer at our Open Days:
- Welcome talk from our Vice Chancellor
- Subject talks, taster sessions, and facilities tours
- Meet our current students and learn about uni life
- Subject stands where you can talk to our tutors
- Campus and accommodation tours from our Student Ambassadors
- Talks covering finance support, accomodation, and degree apprenticeships
- Plenty of complimentary treats and refreshments throughout the day
- Personal statement workshops
- Discounts and offers for restaurants, bars, and hotels in Preston city centre

Our course offering differs across our campuses, so it is important to check before booking. To confirm the campus of your chosen course, check the box titled "campus" at the top of the course page. If the course runs at multiple campuses this section will be a drop-down list with different campus options.
It's also important to note we hold different events for both undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Preston Campus
You can park for free on any of our University Car Parks. The closest to the Student Centre are:
- Fylde Road Car Park (PR1 2XN), 5 minute walk
- Roeburn Car Park (PR2 2QQ), 4 minute walk
- Leighton Car Park (PR1 7EX), 6 minute walk
- Victoria Car Park (PR1 7QS), 5 minute walk
- Harrington Car Park (PR1 7BG), 5 minute walk
Please note council owned car parks are not free on the day of the event and normal pay and display rules apply.
There are blue badge spaces in all our car parks. There are also five blue badge spaces available directly behind the Student Centre, via Adelphi Street. If you or one of your guests require a blue badge space you do not need to notify us prior to your visit but if you have any questions please email the Open Days inbox.
Burnley Campus
There are car parking spaces available at Victoria Mill (BB11 1RA). These are allocated on a first come first serve basis and do get full. Victoria Mill car park has designated blue badge spaces which require booking in advance, please email the Open Days inbox to pre-book.
If Victoria Mill is full we would recommend parking at the Council owned King Street Car Park (BB11 1XD). Please note this is a pay and display car park.
Preston Campus
Our Preston Campus is in the heart of the city centre, and a 10 minute walk from both Preston Railway and Bus Stations.
If you need directions to Preston Campus, use the postcode PR1 7DP in your map app of choice. This will take you straight to our Student Centre. You can look out for our friendly student ambassadors (in red hoodies) who will help you find where you need to be.
Burnley Campus
Victoria Mill is a short walk from all three of Burnley’s train stations and Burnley Bus Station.
- Burnley Barracks - 5 minute walk
- Manchester Road - 12 minute walk
- Burnley Central - 14 minute walk
- Burnley Bus Station - 15 minute walk
For Burnley Campus, use the postcode BB11 1RA in your map app which will take you to Victoria Mill on Trafalgar Street.
For our Preston Campus Open Days we are offering an Open Day Travel Bursary for students from outside of the North West.
If you're a fully registered attendee (prospective student) living outside of the North West, and you check-in at the event, you are eligible to receive the bursary to help offset your travel costs. After you have attended the open day, we will send you an email with the instructions on how to claim the bursary. It will be sent to the email address you registered to attend the open day. The bursary will be paid directly into your bank account.
Those living in the following postcode areas are not eligible for this bursary: PR, BB, FY, BL, WN, M, LA, L, OL, WA, SK, CH, CW
Prospective students living in the following postcodes are eligible for a £30 bursary: CA, DL, BD, HX, HD, S, DE, ST, TF.
Prospective students living in the following postcodes are eligible for a £40 bursary: NE, DH, SR, TS, YO, HG, LS, WF.
Prospective students living outside of the postcodes listed above are eligible for a £50 bursary.
Preston Campus
You can check-in from 9am at the Student Centre. There's lots to see and do at the Open Day so try to give yourself plenty of time to explore. Check the Open Day programme for times and locations.
Please note, the last campus tour departs at 2pm and our Open Day closes at 3pm.
Burnley Campus
You can check-in from 9.45am in Victoria Mill and the event finishes at 2pm.
Preston Campus
Check-in opens from 9am in the Student Centre. If you haven’t already received a copy of the programme in the post you can collect one at check-in.
Don’t worry if you arrive late and need to go straight to a talk or subject session. After your session, please drop into the Student Centre to complete your check-in.
Burnley Campus
Check-in opens from 9.45am in Victoria Mill. All student talks, stands, and tour meeting points are also located in Victoria Mill.
You should receive a QR code via email following your booking to the event. We will also send you a reminder ticket email on the day prior to the event. To assist with check-in please have this ready to scan. Don’t worry if on the day you haven’t received or can’t access your QR code, our friendly check-in team can find your booking on our system.
Yes, we’d love to see you and your guests. You can register up to four guests on your booking form. Don’t worry if one of your guests can’t make it, or someone extra wants to come along, you can update your information when you check-in at the Open Day.
If any of your guests have any specific requirements (such as mobility issues, visual or hearing impairments) and require additional support on the day please email the Open Days inbox in advance. This will ensure our inclusive support team can put the correct measure in place for your guests.
Yes, we will have academic staff for all subject areas available on the day. They will be delivering subject talks and sessions where they'll be discussing where they’ll be discussing their course(s) in further detail. Alternatively, visit our academics at their subject stands where they'll be happy to answer your questions. Academics will be on campus between 9am - 3pm at Preston and 10am - 2pm at Burnley.

Preston Campus
Attend our Accommodation Talk to learn about the available options and helpful tips on how to apply. Guided accommodation tours also run throughout the day, departing from the upper ground floor of the Student Centre. You can also stop by the accommodation stand, our dedicated Accommodation Team are happy to answer any questions.
Burnley Campus
At our Burnley Open Day, you can visit Sandygate Hall accomodation to get all the information about living on campus.
You will have plenty of time to explore Preston, the place we're proud to call home. A vibrant, bustling and culturally diverse city in the heart of the North West. It's home to a thriving community of thousands of students, making it the perfect place to live, work and play.
We've teamed up with local restaurants, cafés, and hotels to bring you some exclusive Open Day discounts to help you discover Preston.
Burnley was once named the friendliest town in the UK, and we recommend looking around the town when you visit us. Burnley is a diverse and friendly place with a unique community feel. Explore local eateries, historic architecture and ample green spaces.
Preston Campus
Although we recommend arriving early to make the most of what’s on offer, we’ve planned our Open Day so that there are activities taking place throughout the day. Most subject talks have both a morning and afternoon session. If you miss your subject talk, you can also speak to staff at the subject stands. Please see your programme for individual timings and locations of subject sessions.

Burnley Campus
Yes, it is still worth coming. Don’t worry if you’ve missed the course talk for your chosen subject, you can still talk to our friendly academic tutors, take a campus tour, or visit our student accommodation.
The last tours start at 1.30pm and the event will finish at 2pm.
A Degree Apprenticeship is a great way to gain an academic qualification whilst you work. At our Preston Campus, you will be able to attend a Degree Apprenticeship talk to find out more about this degree option. You'll also be able to visit the Degree Apprenticeship stand in the Student Centre throughout the day.
If you are joining us for a Burnley Campus Open Day, the Degree Apprenticeship team will be present throughout the day in Victoria Mill and are happy to answer any of your questions.
If you or one of your guests have any specific requirements and require additional support at the Open Day, please add details when booking. If you have not included these details on your booking then please email the Open days inbox. Please contact us at your earliest convenience to ensure we can assist you as best we can. Support often involves BSL interpreters and wellbeing ambassadors being there on the day for you.
On the day we will also have representatives from our Student Support Team on hand to discuss what support is on offer to you throughout the duration of your studies.
Preston Campus

No problem, an Open Day provides the perfect opportunity to explore different subject areas and find the best fit for you. Attend plenty of sessions and speak to as many academics as you wish during the day. On arrival, please make your way to our Student Centre and our friendly check-in staff will be able to help you plan your day.
