Fee status is assessed using UK government regulations and guidance from the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).
Categories of fee status
Home
You may be considered a Home student if you meet certain residency and immigration requirements, such as:
- Being a UK national (or having settled status) and ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years before your course starts
- Having specific rights under EU, EEA or Swiss arrangements, or being the child/dependent of someone with such rights, and be ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years before your course starts
- Holding refugee or humanitarian protection status in the UK.
Overseas
If you do not meet the requirements for Home status, you will usually be classified as an Overseas student. This means you will pay international tuition fees.
How fee status is assessed
When you apply, we will make an initial assessment of your fee status based on the information provided in your application.
In some cases, we may need to request additional evidence. This could include:
- Passports and visas
- Evidence of residency
- Proof of settled or pre-settled status
- Other official documents showing your status in the UK
We assess all students individually, following the rules set by the UK government and UKCISA.
Fee status questionnaire
If we need more information to assess your status, you may be asked to complete a Tuition Fee Questionnaire (TFQ).
This will be emailed to you directly by our admissions team, please reply to that email promptly with the completed form.
Appeals and reviews
If you disagree with your initial fee status decision, you may request a review. You will need to provide additional evidence to support your case. To do this, please reply to the outcome decision email.
