Overview

This is a limited fund to meet the cost of 1 eligible student's SQE1 and SQE2 exams. The scholarship covers the cost of SQE1 and SQE2 exams and is funded by the University.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be a current student undertaking the MProf Solicitors in Legal Practice programme at the University
  • Have the commitment and ability to qualify as a solicitor
  • Be self-funding
  • Be able to demonstrate that you are limited by significant personal barriers.

The scheme's application and selection process will consider, for example:

  • Your education to date
  • Demonstration of any work experience (paid or voluntary) in the legal profession
  • Your drive and rationale to qualify as a solicitor.

Applicants whose means are limited by significant personal barriers, will be considered. This could include but is not limited to having faced exceptional circumstances in pursuing their studies and aim to qualify as a solicitor. This could be due to:

  • a disability
  • the candidates having spent time in local authority care
  • family estrangement.

To apply students need to complete the application form.

Deadline

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is 31 January 2026. A decision on the awarding of the scholarship will be made by 28 February 2026.

Exclusions

You must not be in receipt of any other sponsorship or scholarship.

Frequently asked questions

Does the money get given to me or straight to the SQE exam provider?

There is no monetary equivalent or transaction involving the fund as the assessment funding will be applied directly to the relevant booking by Kaplan when the candidate has obtained an individual SQE ID number following the student making a booking with Kaplan.

How much is the scholarship worth?

The funding covers the cost of SQE1 and SQE2 exams. The assessment funding cannot be redeemed other than for payment of assessment fees as set out above. We will not provide any cash or monetary award in the place of the assessment funding and the assessment funding will not be provided to any aspiring solicitor directly.

Is somebody from the university guaranteed a place?

Awards will be made solely based on the eligibility criteria

Can I receive this scholarship if I am an international student?

Awards will be made solely based on the eligibility criteria and if an international student meets the eligibility criteria they can apply for the fund

What happens when I submit my application?

The application will be assessed by 28 February 2026. Applicants may be required to attend a short interview.
