  • The course is delivered and taught by experienced academics and former law enforcement investigators with specialist knowledge in computing, psychology and criminal investigation.
  • You will make full use of our dedicated facilities, including a Computer Forensic Laboratory and our Hydra Suite.
  • We offer a flexible programme of study that caters for your needs as a learner. You will receive close support and supervision throughout your learning journey.

Institute of Cyber Digital Investigation Professionals

Part of the Chartered Institute of Information Security

We have an academic partnership with the Institute of Cyber Digital Investigation Professionals (ICDIP). When you study with us, you will get access to a student membership with ICDIP. This is a professional body, set up by the College of Policing to professionalise the digital investigation industry.

Missing Persons Information Unit

By joining our Missing Person Investigation Unit, you will have the opportunity to work with the families of missing people. You can develop lines of enquiry, and work within a wider network of cold-case missing person investigators.

Women in Cyber

Our Women in Cyber group is dedicated to empowering women to explore and thrive in technology and cybersecurity.

We are partnered with Women in Cyber Security (WiCyS) International and have our own WiCyS student chapter, which is internationally recognised. The group provides a supportive space for connection, collaboration and professional growth.

The group hosts workshops, events, and conferences to inspire and support women in cybersecurity. They recently organised the Women in Cyber: Lancashire event, bringing together students, alumni, academics, and industry professionals to share experiences, gain insights, and build valuable connections.

Future careers

On completion, you can access a broad range of careers. Example careers include Law Enforcement, civil investigation companies (e.g. eDisclosure/eDiscovery), the military, the National Crime Agency, CEOP, Internet Watch Foundation, Border Control, banks, insurance companies, boutique investigation companies, or any company/organisation that has an in-house investigation/cyber security department.

While the PG Cert and PG Dip allow you to study at a speed convenient to you, they also demonstrate to employers that you have developed the critical thinking and writing skills needed at a postgraduate level.

The MSc involves completing an independent (supervised) research project that demonstrates your ability to solve problems related to Cybercrime Investigation. This acts as an excellent demonstration of how you can apply research skills to solve the real-world problems that you may face during your day-to-day career.

Entry requirements

Minimum qualifications:

  • Applicants should hold at least 2:2 degree or equivalent
  • Applications from all candidates will be considered on their merits in the light of the nature and scope of the programme and relevant experience
  • IELTS: Score of at least 6.0 or equivalent
