Samantha and Mark Green share their journey running the Dogstar Foundation. They'll provide an insight into their approach to animal welfare and creating lasting change.
Samantha and Mark Green didn’t set out to work in animal welfare. They worked on the London Underground managing critical operations. After the 7/7 bombings, everything changed.
In this inspiring talk, they share how meeting a sick dog in Sri Lanka led to the creation of the Dogstar Foundation. The Dogstar Foundation is an animal welfare charity in Sri Lanka which treats cats and dogs. They combine sterilisation, veterinary training and community engagement to create lasting change. They have completed over 95,000 surgeries.
Samantha and Mark challenge common assumptions about effective animal welfare. They draw on personal experience, real-world data and hard-learned lessons. They explore why building lasting change overseas requires a willingness to let local knowledge lead, rather than importing external models.
They also reflect on the challenges now facing the UK dog and cat welfare sector. They'll share how fresh thinking inspired by lower-resource contexts might help.
Our free public talks are held to ignite discussion and share interesting ideas and knowledge. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a student, professional or simply curious.
