Campus-based undergraduate degree
Our nursing courses are designed to give you the skills and knowledge to become a confident and capable nurse. Based at our Preston and Burnley campuses, these traditional route courses combine academic study with hands-on practice through clinical placements across Lancashire.
We offer courses within four fields of nursing:
- Nursing with Registered Nurse (Adult), BSc (Hons)
- Nursing with Registered Nurse (Children and Young People), BSc (Hons)
- Nursing with Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities), BSc (Hons)
- Nursing with Registered Nurse (Mental Health), BSc (Hons)
You'll spend block periods of time split between campus-based learning and practical training, gaining real-world experience to prepare you for a career in nursing.
For your clinical placements, you’ll be based within one of several NHS Trusts within the Central Lancashire region. From there, you'll gain experience in a range of placement areas. If you study at Burnley Campus, all your placements will be within East Lancashire (Blackburn and Burnley area).
Practice-based pathway
Our practice-based pathway is delivered by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with us. It offers a unique hybrid model of professional development. Unlike traditional programmes that separate theory and practice into distinct blocks, this pathway integrates both from day one. You’ll combine academic study with hands-on clinical experience throughout the entire course.
The course includes set weekly placement days alongside theory learning. Your academic learning will be delivered through a mix of in-person sessions at our bespoke learning centre and remote learning via virtual platforms.
Your placement time will take place within one NHS Trust, chosen from the list below:
Return to study programme
Don’t have formal Level 3 qualifications, such as A Levels or BTECs? Or thinking about returning to education after a long break? Our free Return to Study programme can help you take the next step towards your dream degree.
The course is delivered online and part-time over six weeks. Once you’ve completed it, you could go straight onto one of our nursing programmes (subject to a successful interview). You may also qualify for a course with a foundation year. To progress, you’ll need to complete the Return to Study programme and meet the DBS and occupational health requirements.
Blended learning
Our blended learning option for adult or mental health nursing is built for flexibility. It's ideal if you can't get to campus regularly due to work, travel, or personal commitments.
You'll do 80% of your learning online, so you can study at your own pace. The other 20% is face-to-face and delivered in well-organised sessions. These are planned to fit around your life, with on-campus theory time and placements scheduled in short, focused blocks.
Each module includes weekly sessions on Microsoft Teams at a set time. You'll get regular support and a chance to connect with tutors and peers. You'll also attend placement blocks in-person with our practice learning partners. These give you valuable hands-on experience in the labs without the need to visit campus often.
This blended approach gives you the best of both worlds - flexible online study and essential in-person learning.
