What are veterinary placements?
As part of your Veterinary Medicine degree, you’ll complete two different types of placements: Intra-mural Rotations (IMR) and Extra-mural Studies (EMS).
-
Intra-mural Rotations (IMR) are placements built directly into your degree. These are arranged for you by the University and take place during your normal timetable.
-
Extra-mural Studies (EMS) placements are different. They sit outside of regular teaching and don’t involve formal training. Instead, they give you the chance to gain extra experience, often during holiday periods.
EMS placements are designed to build on the knowledge and skills you’ve developed through your IMR placements and coursework. They give you the opportunity to experience real-world situations and settings that you might not encounter within the curriculum, helping you grow in confidence and prepare for your future career.
