The University of Lancashire is committed to providing a safe, inclusive environment where everybody is treated equally, has equality of opportunity and feels as though they belong within the University.

EDI Leads

Within the School of Veterinary Medicine, we have two equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) leads who ensure EDI matters are included in all meetings and discussions, for both staff and students.

Animal Aspirations

Animal Aspirations is a student-led initiative running in vet schools across the UK, created to tackle the lack of diversity in the veterinary profession. By delivering fun, interactive workshops for primary school children, it inspires those from ethnically diverse and lower socioeconomic backgrounds to explore veterinary medicine and animal-related careers, helping make the field more accessible for everyone.

Veterinary Summer School

In 2025 we held our first Veterinary Summer School, with the help of Medivet. We hosted 20 students on a residential week of getting hands on with animals, learning how to write a personal statement, discovering coaching, and so much more. The week was aimed at strengthening the aspirations of young people from underrepresented backgrounds who want to study veterinary medicine and supporting them to progress into a veterinary career.

Contextual admissions

We offer foundation entry courses to both our full degree programmes to help those who would otherwise not have the qualifications to study veterinary medicine or bioveterinary sciences. The gateway courses are perfect if you don't have a science background or the usual academic requirements for these courses. We offer a reduced entry tariff for those who’s life experiences may have resulted in academic challenges.
