Research Centre for China's Heritage Studies

The Research Centre for China’s Heritage Studies is a transnational and interdisciplinary academic network for scholars, researchers, practitioners and PhD students specialising in China’s heritage studies.

Our definition of heritage includes the tangible and intangible, both within and beyond China. Our research is interdisciplinary, with founding members from different countries and universities. This makes the Centre an incubator for innovation and collaboration, as we benefit from combined resources, networks and expertise.

Research aims

Our mission is to use cultural heritage to create communicative memories from the traditional notion of collective memories. This will allow us to produce impact beyond geographical, temporal and disciplinary boundaries.

The Centre’s research outputs include academic papers, policy briefs, books, case studies, exhibitions and documentaries.

The Centre consists of an Academic Committee Board and an advisory board, a list of partners, and sub-groups by research clusters. The Centre’s focus research areas include:

Partnerships, members and projects

The Centre has established partnerships with universities, cultural institutions, and international organisations. This will allow us to share resources, collaborate on projects and expand the Centre’s influence. Their contributions can vary depending on the nature of the partnership, but will play a crucial role in enhancing the centre’s research capabilities, innovation and impact.

Some partners will provide financial support, infrastructure or other resources. Some may foster interdisciplinary approaches via exchange of ideas, data and technology. Some may act as liaisons to ensure that research outcomes address societal needs and benefit the broader community. Other partners may help translate research findings into actionable policies or advocate for initiatives at local, national, or international levels.
