Weight loss jabs are the topic of a free public talk taking place at the University of Lancashire later this month.
Injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy are all over the news and social media feeds and have been labelled a risky quick fix and also applauded as medical game changer.
More and more people are dropping the pounds with the help of so called ‘skinny jabs’. But how do they actually work and, importantly, what are the risks? Is the increasing access to weight loss medications online a health crisis in the making or a revolution in how we can manage our own health?
The panel discussion, entitled Weight Loss Jabs – What Do You Need to Know?, will see academics and medical professionals explore the science behind the stories and how weight loss injections are transforming the way we treat diabetes and obesity.
Taking place on Tuesday 27 January in Darwin Lecture Theatre, the panel includes Dr Donna Daly, Senior Lecturer in Biosciences/Physiology; Dr Rahul Thakur, a GP partner with Specialist Interest in Diabetes; and Katie Smolski, Lecturer in Prescribing and Advanced Clinical Pharmacist and will be chaired by Professor StJohn Crean, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise.
Registration starts at 5.40pm, introductory talks from the panellists start at 6pm and the panel conversation followed by questions from the audience starts at 6.40pm.
Free tickets are available online.
