Graduates spanning four decades attended the special reunion
Former University of Central Lancashire* students have gathered together to reminisce about their time as students and to share stories of where life has taken them since graduating.
The graduates, who completed their degree courses in Preston between 1992 and 2024, attended the special reunion event in London.
They were welcomed to The British Academy, a Grade I listed property in Westminster, by Maggie Wild, the University’s Head of Development and Alumni. She spoke about how proud the University is of its heritage and of the alumni who span the world.
The event welcomed alumni not only from the UK but internationally too, with graduates from Greece, Mauritius, Nigeria and India in attendance.
As part of the evening, colleagues from the University’s new London Partnership spoke about the opportunities available in London. The partnership, which is a joint venture between the University and LCA Education Ltd, teaches students at LCA’s campus on East India Docks in the capital but awards University of Central Lancashire degrees.
"I'm proud to have studied at the University of Central Lancashire, so it was a pleasure to attend the evening event and learn about my alma mater's expansion in the intervening years"
— Alumnus A J West, a novelist and broadcaster
Novelist and broadcaster A J West, who graduated in 2003 after studying English literature and journalism, was in attendance. He said: “I'm proud to have studied at the University of Central Lancashire, so it was a pleasure to attend the evening event and learn about my alma mater's expansion in the intervening years, not least the opening of the London Campus.
“As a novelist and broadcaster, my career has been shaped by my happy years in Preston, and I'm excited to offer my services to students in London, my home city.”
Maggie added: “We were delighted to welcome our alumni to such a magnificent venue in London. It was a true representation of the University’s world-wide alumni family as the event provided an opportunity for graduates from outside of Lancashire to reconnect and to meet new friends. It was a special evening, and many new friendships and connections were made.”
All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the University’s Harris Bursary Fund, a charitable fund set up to help students with essential study items such as textbooks and computer equipment. It also supports those students most in need with food vouchers, to ensure they can focus on their studies to achieve their goals.
