Nominated emergency contacts

We ask that prior to nominating an emergency contact, you obtain their permission to fulfil this role. It is important that you make them aware of what this role entails and that their contact details will be shared with the University. It might be helpful to share this webpage with your emergency contact. A nominated emergency contact must be over 18 and ideally able to speak English.

We ask that you keep your emergency contact details up to date. We know that life circumstances can change, and what was once an appropriate emergency contact may not remain like this for the duration of your studies. If you need to change this to an alternative contact, please do so as soon as possible by updating MyUCLan.

The University will use emergency contact information only where considered necessary and will always try to involve the student in any decision making where possible and appropriate.

We might contact you if we have reason to believe a student’s welfare or safety is at significant risk. This may also happen alongside the University contacting other organisations such as emergency services or a student’s GP, where known. We will always give very careful, well-governed consideration prior to deciding to share any information.
