When you work for the University of Lancashire, you’ll be part of a thriving community of talent that’s united in a common commitment to transform lives. We do this by delivering an outstanding educational experience and creating prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing a vital part in helping us achieve our vision.
About the role:
The University of Lancashire is delighted to invite applications for a Student Support Officer to join our warm, friendly, and dedicated Student Support team. We are the gateway to Student Services, offering a single, reliable point of contact for all student enquiries throughout their university journey.
In this rewarding role, you’ll play a key part in helping students make the very most of their time with us. You’ll provide high-quality, approachable support in person, by email, over the phone, and record details on our online systems. Every question matters to us, no issue is too big and no query is too small. We take pride in offering timely answers, clear guidance, and the reassurance our students need to focus on their studies and create positive memories that last a lifetime.
While we aim to resolve as many queries as possible within Student Support, you’ll also work closely with specialist teams across the University when expert help is needed, ensuring every student receives the right support at the right time.
You’ll work alongside other Student Support Officers, each specialising in areas such as International Support, Finance, or Disability Support. This role includes supporting more complex queries within the International support area, using your listening and questioning skills to understand student needs and respond with clarity, compassion, and accuracy. You’ll also be responsible for logging information clearly and consistently.
About you:
Joining our friendly and welcoming team, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate excellent customer service skills along with outstanding verbal and written communication skills. A proven ability to analyse and solve customer support queries is essential along with being able to effectively plan, prioritise and organise your own workload. You will have a positive approach with eagerness to learn and adaptability to work effectively as part of a team. Applicants will need to have A Levels or equivalent post-secondary qualifications, or relevant industry experience alongside Maths and English Language to GCSE level or equivalent.
If you meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification and are excited by the idea of supporting students through their university journey, we’d be delighted to hear from you. This role is based at our Preston campus.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
We are proud to be a diverse, multicultural university. We are committed to building a truly inclusive culture where diversity is championed. Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals who will support the diversification within the University and support its development of a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
The University is committed to providing a safe environment to study, work and visit, protecting children, young people and adults at risk from harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy and safer recruitment procedure outlines our approach, alongside other internal policies, procedures and guidance which can be found on our Safeguarding page.
Applicants applying for roles in regulated activity and that are listed as an exception under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 will be required to disclose any spent and unspent convictions and undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check at the appropriate level, the University will only ask an applicant to make an application for a DBS check if they are legally entitled to.
