About the role:
Duties will include the set up and preparation of laboratories and facilities, providing day to day technical support and advice to staff and to students studying a diverse range of subjects in the science area. Although the successful candidate will be required show flexibility in supporting a number of areas, the primary function for this role will include making up solutions, setting up practicals, clearing them away and cleaning. As such, a meticulous attention to detail and concern for high standards is crucial. The position will be mainly supporting Chemistry and also some Pharmacy classes.
About you:
The successful applicant will also be required to undertake general equipment maintenance and safety checks, equipment inventory checks and updates and providing advice as required. You will need to be a practical person with a keen interest in science and technology, preferably with a scientific background, be IT literate and have a working knowledge of standard laboratory equipment, supported by great customer service skills. The ability to adapt your knowledge and experience to support staff and students across the wide range of subject disciplines we support would be a distinct advantage. You must also have good verbal and written communication skills to liaise with colleagues, staff and students. A degree of manual handling may be involved e.g. lifting and carrying microscopes and other equipment. A flexible approach is required to weekly working patterns due to the student timetable. Applicants will be educated to undergraduate degree level in science subject or equivalent experiential learning in a related discipline.
