By joining the University of Lancashire, you’ll become part of a thriving community of talent that’s united by a shared vision – to transform the lives of our students and create prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve. Every colleague has a vital role to play in helping us achieve this vision.
About the role:
The University of Lancashire and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have partnered to address the global doctor shortage through delivery of a new accredited medical qualification, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Building on a collaboration that began in 2017, the two institutions now offer a pathway starting with a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in International Medical Sciences (PGDip IMS) studied in the UK at University of Lancashire, followed by a further two years study to complete the U.S.-accredited MD degree with AUC while in clinical sites in the US or UK.
The purpose of this role is to act as a Clinical Skills and Anatomy/Histology Facilitator, engaging in a range of teaching and learning activities and supporting current academic staff. This includes communication and clinical skills, case-based learning, and clinical reasoning, as well as interprofessional education, and professionalism. You'll also provide essential support for anatomy and histology lab sessions.
Beyond direct facilitation, you'll contribute significantly through marking written work, creating and updating curriculum materials, and acting as a Personal Tutor for individual students. You will also be involved in OSCE writing and examining, coursework assessments, and supervising small-scale research projects.
About you:
You will be a proactive and self-motivated individual with recent experience of practice UK hospitals. You will also have experience of mentoring or coaching medical students in an educational setting.
You will have a good undergraduate degree (at least a 2.1) in a relevant Biomedical subject (or equivalent), and you will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to produce clear and concise documentation. You will be comfortable with standard IT packages and you will be able to work independently or as part of a team.
Ideally, you will also have experience facilitating small-group teaching sessions, be able to demonstrate knowledge of contemporary practices in medical education and be registered with the GMC or an equivalent body. A teaching qualification (such as a Certificate in HE or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy), and familiarity with the USMLE medical curriculum would also be an advantage.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We’ll encourage you to make the most of your talents and continually develop your skills and knowledge. As well as realising your career ambitions, you’ll be making a positive difference to other people’s lives. We also offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
We are proud to be a diverse, multicultural university. We are committed to building a truly inclusive culture where diversity is championed. Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals who will support the diversification within the University and support its development of a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
The University is committed to providing a safe environment to study, work and visit, protecting children, young people and adults at risk from harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy and safer recruitment procedure outlines our approach, alongside other internal policies, procedures and guidance which can be found on our Safeguarding page.
Applicants applying for roles in regulated activity and that are listed as an exception under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 will be required to disclose any spent and unspent convictions and undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check at the appropriate level, the University will only ask an applicant to make an application for a DBS check if they are legally entitled to.
