Japan Day at the University of Lancashire is back for the 12th year on 6 February 2026.
About the event
Japan Day is an annual event which celebrates Japanese culture. Honouring the 12th year of Japan Day, the event will opened by a Special Guest from the Japanese embassy.
Curious about learning Japanese but haven't found the time? Why not register and experience learning the language in our taster sessions made for complete beginners of Japanese.
We also have hands-on workshops such as Sa-do: Tea ceremony, Sho-do: Calligraphy, Origami and Furoshiki: eco wrapping.
What to expect on the day:
You can see stalls, displays, and performances in:
- Martial Arts
- Manga/Anime
- Japanese Sign Language (JSL) vs British Sign Language (BSL)
- J-Pop Dance
- Japan information stalls where you can learn about hidden gems of Japan
- Job opportunities under the JET scheme by the embassy
- Matcha tasting, a comparison of three differently graded matcha (pre-booking required)
- Taiko Drumming
- Premium Sake lecture and tasting (back by popular demand)
New for 2026 will be:
- A real size Torii Gate as a main feature
- An art performance that compliments the display by Miria Miria
- Aquinas College is hosting a learning stall of Japanese Onomatopoeia, and various Japan-themed stalls to sell Japan related goods
- An art workshop with Deaf Artist, Oliver Jamin
