Course overview 

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the physiological, psychological and social aspects of pain
  • Critically examine the different aspects of acute, chronic and malignant pain
  • Review the pharmacological approaches to pain control discussing the ethical, legal and professional issues associated with this
  • Debate the application of different pain assessment techniques
  • Examine the role of the health care practitioner in the safe and effective management of non-pharmacological techniques of pain control

Entry requirements

  • Be a healthcare professional
  • Be working in an area where patients may experience pain
  • Be qualified for six months or more
  • Have support from their manager in practice
  • Be able to demonstrate engagement throughout studies to the course leader
