Course overview
On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Discuss the physiological, psychological and social aspects of pain
- Critically examine the different aspects of acute, chronic and malignant pain
- Review the pharmacological approaches to pain control discussing the ethical, legal and professional issues associated with this
- Debate the application of different pain assessment techniques
- Examine the role of the health care practitioner in the safe and effective management of non-pharmacological techniques of pain control
Entry requirements
- Be a healthcare professional
- Be working in an area where patients may experience pain
- Be qualified for six months or more
- Have support from their manager in practice
- Be able to demonstrate engagement throughout studies to the course leader
