Course overview

This module as part of the Post Qualifying Framework aims to identify and develop the skills and knowledge required by practitioners in order to safely assist in providing care before, during and whilst patients are emerging from anaesthesia.

Module content includes:

  • Airway management
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Regional and local anaesthetic techniques
  • Pharmacology of anaesthetic agents
  • Haemodynamic monitoring
  • Managing anaesthetic emergencies.

Entry requirements 

You must be on either the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register and must be working in a clinical area relevant to the module content.

You must seek support from your manager for 18 hours per week of supernumerary and supervised practice to enable completion of the module competencies.
