Mia's placement year at New Balance

BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Marketing student Mia is currently completing her placement year at New Balance, working as a UK Marketing Intern. A placement year gives students valuable work experience and helps them stand out in the job market.

After completing her second year at our Preston campus, Mia decided to pursue a placement to gain hands-on experience in the fashion marketing industry, something she has always been passionate about. During her second year, she completed a ‘Preparation for industry’ module, which helped her secure a role at New Balance. Additionally, Mia explained, “managing and organising my time across part-time work and university coursework helped to prepare me for my placement”.

In her role as UK Marketing Intern at New Balance, Mia’s responsibilities include product ordering and organisation, sending products to influencers, providing feedback on influencer content, creating styling lookbooks, conducting competitor analysis, and supporting the marketing team with various tasks.

Mia has seen her teamwork and communication skills develop across the year, as her role often involves collaborating with different teams and coordinating with external partners.

"The best part of the placement so far has been attending some incredible events organised by the marketing team."

Mia shares. “My first event was a three-day trail running retreat in the Lake District. It was amazing to go from helping plan the event to seeing it come to life and meeting amazing people across the marketing industry.”

The placement has confirmed Mia’s passion for marketing within the fashion industry, but has also sparked a new interest.

“I've always been adamant I wanted to go into marketing and in the fashion industry, so the placement year has just confirmed that this is what I want to do. It has also opened my eyes to marketing opportunities in the sporting industry, which I wouldn't have considered working in before, but I am now extremely interested in.”

As Mia nears the end of her placement, she feels more prepared than ever for her final year.

“I feel much more prepared for final year coming towards the end of my placement as I now have the knowledge and confidence to think outside the box and be more creative with my ideas.”
