Research intern presents work at Parliament

The prestigious ‘Posters in Parliament’ event took place on Wednesday 5 March. Over 50 students from universities across the UK exhibited their research to legislators and policy makers.

The Posters in Parliament 2025 exhibition took place in Portcullis House, House of Commons, London on Wednesday 5 March. Presenters and guests had the opportunity to attend an optional tour of the House of Lords and Westminster Hall and interactive workshops.

Aarav Ramesh Kanar, the winner of the Best Poster Prize for the 2024 Undergraduate Research Internship Programme (UURIP), presented his poster entitled “Your Microbiome Shapes Your Future”. Aarav is an MBBS Medicine and Surgery student at the Burnley Campus and was accompanied in Parliament by his internship supervisors Morris Gordon and Vasiliki Sinopoulou.

"The poster event itself was lively and interactive with many young researchers passionately talking about their work. Aarav's poster gathered much interest and he spoke to many people about it."

Speaking about his time at the Posters in Parliament event, Aarav shared: “The main takeaway from the presentation ceremony was: "Undergraduate students are the future of research."

One of the internship supervisors, shared: “Morris and I attended a workshop on how researchers can engage with parliamentary committees, and we intend to plan research around functional disorders and IBD and use it to implement much needed care changes for those overlooked conditions”

Vasiliki continued: “The poster event itself was lively and interactive with many young researchers passionately talking about their work. Aarav's poster gathered much interest and he spoke to many people about it. In my opinion it was the most eye-catching poster in the room.”
