Dr Udit Tiwari
Udit is an Associate Lecturer in Medical Sciences at the University of Lancashire. Udit teaches across the Foundation and BSc (Hons) Medical Science programmes, delivering modules in chemistry, statistics, research methods and pharmacology. A materials researcher by background, his work focuses on functional materials for optoelectronic and sustainable energy applications.
Udit completed a PhD in Physics at the University of Lancashire as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow. He now combines teaching, research and outreach to support student progression and engagement in medical sciences.
As Associate Lecturer in Medical Sciences, Udit contributes to teaching across the Foundation and BSc (Hons) Medical Science programmes, delivering chemistry, statistics and pharmacology modules. He supervises student projects and acts as a year-group tutor, promoting engagement and providing a first point of contact for academic and personal support. Alongside teaching, Udit pursues research in functional materials for optoelectronic applications, with expertise in advanced electron spectroscopy techniques for surface and interface characterisation and a particular focus on strategies to enhance thermal and moisture stability.
Udit began his academic journey in India, earning a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in Chemistry at Dayalbagh Educational Institute, where he also completed specialist training in cell biotechnology. In 2020, he joined the University of Lancashire as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Fellow, completing his doctorate in Physics in 2024. His doctoral research combined materials synthesis, thin-film fabrication and synchrotron-based surface analysis to uncover fundamental degradation mechanisms in halide perovskite thin films for optoelectronic devices. This work included experiments at international facilities such as ASTRID-2 (Denmark) and the Henry Royce Institute (UK).
Udit delivers modules in chemistry, statistics and pharmacology, supervises student projects, and supports progression as a year-group tutor and mentor. Udit’s research interests extend beyond perovskites to include ionic liquid-modified surfaces, catalytic interfaces, and advanced materials for sustainable energy technologies. He has presented his work at conferences and seminars in the UK and internationally, and continues to collaborate on projects at the intersection of materials chemistry, surface science and sustainable technologies. Beyond academia, he is passionate about widening participation and science communication, and has organised student-focused events such as awards ceremonies and science-themed activities.
