Philippa Hood
Philippa joined the School of Law and Policing in 2022 following 14 years service in Lancashire Constabulary in uniformed roles predominantly front line response and training. Philippa has lectured on the Police Degree Apprenticeships with Lancashire Constabulary and GMP, BSc (Hons) Professional Policing and Hydra.
In recognition of the value of immersive and applied learning styles and assessment, Philippa has been a part of a team that has seen the implementation of modules that identify and develop student's behaviours, academic knowledge and skills required for professional policing and other investigative roles.
As Course Leader Philippa is responsible for providing students with real world value in the degree course by ensuring they receive a rigorous, practice-informed education aligned with the College of Policing’s national curriculum. Philippa oversees curriculum development, student support, and external engagement with policing partners and works closely with regional forces to ensure the course remains responsive to current challenges and opportunities within the profession.
While working for Lancashire Constabulary Philippa was an associate trainer in Officer Safety Training and was a Public Order Instructor as well as working as a uniformed tutor constable in East Lancashire. An interest in training and development took Philippa to Learning and Development in Headquarters at Lancashire, where she was involved in the development and roll out of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship and Police Constable Entry Route training. A natural progression then to working at the University of Lancashire saw the opportunity of working with Greater Manchester Police Degree Apprentice students as well as undergraduate BSc (Hons) Professional Policing, where she has taken on the role as Course Leader.
