Karen teaches post graduate students and apprentices who are seeking a career as a solicitor. She also heads up the Law Clinic providing students with real-world experience and facilitating access to legal advice for members of the public in Lancashire.
Karen has a Masters in Advanced Legal Practice and is a Fellow of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy), she teaches in family law and wills and probate. In the Law Clinic, she works alongside Citizens Advice (Preston) to run a weekly Drop In Advice session and, separately, offers more in-depth appointments in the Law Clinic as required.
Karen is an alumni, having studied for her postgraduate Legal Practice Course at the University of Central Lancashire, before taking up a career as a solicitor specialising in family law. She worked in Blackpool for Inghams Solicitors dealing with a varied private and public caseload.
Karen developed an interest in local politics alongside her legal career and was elected to Fylde Council in 2007, where she is now Leader of the Council. In 2010 she stood for the parliamentary seat of Hyndburn and then worked for a newly elected Member of Parliament in Blackpool North and Cleveleys.
Shortly afterwards, in 2012, Karen began lecturing at the University of Central Lancashire as an associate lecturer and took up a permanent position in 2015, with a particular purpose of expanding the Law Clinic.
