John White
John teaches across a variety of modules for the MSc/PGDip Veterinary Physiotherapy and Clinical Rehabilitation alongside his trusted canine companion Mac the Labradoodle. John has a particular interest in rehabilitation for specific conditions in thoroughbred horses.
As a Veterinary Education Lecturer at the University of Lancashire, John delivers lectures across the postgraduate veterinary physiotherapy modules, with a particular emphasis on canine and equine rehabilitation. John's responsibilities include designing and updating course materials to ensure they reflect current advances in veterinary science, as well as providing academic tutoring and support to students. John mentors students through their academic and professional development, and supervises research projects from conception through to data analysis and dissemination. Additionally, John collaborates with colleagues and external partners on research initiatives, encourages student involvement in research, and contributes to departmental activities such as curriculum reviews, outreach events, and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning strategies within the School of Veterinary Medicine.
John White began his academic journey at Liverpool John Moores University, where he studied for a BSc in Zoology, graduating in 2015. Driven by a passion for animal health and rehabilitation, John progressed to the Canine and Equine Physiotherapy Training, ran through Middlesex university, to pursue postgraduate studies in Veterinary Physiotherapy. After qualifying as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2017, he became a member of the Institute of Registered Veterinary and Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP).
With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, John established his own successful practice, Whites Veterinary Physiotherapy, providing specialist physiotherapy services to a diverse range of canine and equine clients. His work has involved treating dogs and horses from all backgrounds, from beloved family pets to elite performance animals, helping them recover from injury, surgery, and chronic conditions.
Eager to deepen his expertise, John returned to the University of Nottingham to complete a Master’s degree (MSc) in Veterinary Physiotherapy in 2020. He further expanded his clinical skills by obtaining a qualification in canine hydrotherapy in 2022, enabling him to offer advanced rehabilitation techniques, including underwater treadmill therapy.
Alongside his clinical work, John has contributed extensively to veterinary education. He has been a guest lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, delivering sessions for both Zoology and Animal Behaviour degree programmes. He also spent a period teaching on the BSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy at Warwickshire University, sharing his practical knowledge and passion for animal rehabilitation with the next generation of veterinary professionals.
Now, as a Veterinary Education Lecturer at the University of Lancashire, John is committed to advancing both teaching and research. He is particularly keen to explore new avenues in equine rehabilitation, with a current research focus on equine kissing spine - a prevalent and challenging condition in horses. John’s goal is to contribute to the evidence base for effective management and treatment, while continuing to inspire and support students in their academic and professional journeys.
