Ellie Hodkinson Smith
Ellie is a Lecturer in Animal Bioscience and Nutrition and Deputy Course Lead for Bioveterinary Sciences at the School of Veterinary Medicine. She primarily teaches on the anatomy and bioscience modules within the Bioveterinary Science and Foundation Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (BVMS) programmes and also contributes to teaching in nutrition and farm animal science across all courses.
Ellie graduated from the University of Leeds in 2019 with a First-Class Honours BSc in Biology, receiving the Centaury Award in Animal Science and Nutrition. After graduating, she worked as a husbandry technician and practical instructor, gaining hands-on experience with a wide range of species including small and large mammals, reptiles, invertebrates, and birds. She then moved into teaching and has spent the past five years teaching across biology and animal science programmes in both further and higher education. Ellie joined the Veterinary School in May 2024.
Alongside her teaching, she also serves as the School Careers Lead, coordinating career-focused activities for students. This includes organising guest lectures from industry experts and delivering career skills sessions to support student development and progression into employment or further study.
