Dr Rami Salem
Dr Rami Salem is a Senior Lecturer in in Accounting and Finance. He has over ten years of excellent teaching and research experience in accounting and finance at higher education institutions, nationally and internationally. He is an experienced lecturer with a professional background in the banking industry. He completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Central Lancashire, UK. He achieved his MSc (Hons) in International Accounting from University Utara, Malaysia, and BSc (Hons) in financial accounting from Aljabal Algharbi University, Libya.
Dr Rami Salem boasts an extensive background in accounting and finance, with over thirteen years of teaching and research experience in higher education institutions both nationally and internationally. Prior to his foray into higher education, Dr Salem held a position as Chief Investment Officer at the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), where he managed the investments of Libyan foreign reserves.
Currently, Dr Salem holds several key roles within research and education, reflecting his expertise and dedication to advancing academic excellence. He serves as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) Unit of Assessment (UoA) 17 Lead for Business and Management Studies, where he plays a pivotal role in the strategic preparation and evaluation of research outputs and impact case studies for the upcoming REF2029 cycle. In addition, he is the research degree tutor and ethics lead, overseeing the integrity and quality of research practices within the institution. He also serves as the Director of Studies, providing academic guidance and mentorship to a cohort of doctoral students, ensuring they achieve their research goals and contribute meaningfully to their fields.
Moreover, his dedication to advancing knowledge in his field and contributing to the academic community is evident through his roles as an Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member for respected academic journals. His expertise has been recognised with prestigious awards, such as the Emerald Awards 2022 Literati – Outstanding Reviewer, Dean's Research Award, and Vice-Chancellor's Award of Outstanding Contribution to Peer Development, highlighting his commitment to scholarly excellence and his significant impact on the academic community. Dr Salem's research proficiency is evident through his consistent publication record in highly ranked ABS 3* journals.

Rami's research contributions have been published in prestigious journals, including Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Business, Strategy and the Environment, International Journal of Finance and Economics, Environmental Science & Policy, The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, International Journal of Accounting & Information Management, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, among others. He also holds significant editorial roles, acting as the Associate Editor of Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting and Editor Board Member of Business Economics Journal.
