Dr Alison Doherty
Dr. Alison Doherty is a Research Fellow based within the University of Lancashire’s Applied Health Research hub; and a Theme Manager within the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration, North West Coast (ARC NWC). Alison obtained her PhD in 2018 from the School of Nursing, University of Lancashire with funding from the NIHR, Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Care Research, North West Coast (NIHR CLAHRC NWC). Alison’s interests focus on the use of research methods for evidence-synthesis (including systematic reviews and scoping reviews), qualitative research, and co-producing research with people who have a learning disability (and those who support them) to inform decision-making regarding the provision of health and social care.
Dr. Alison Doherty is based within the Synthesis, Economic Evaluation and Decision Science (SEEDS) Group, Applied Health Research hub, University of Lancashire. She plays a key role in the development and delivery of the applied health and social care activities of the NIHR ARC NWC Methodological Support (MIDAS) Theme, which is led by Professor Andy Clegg. Alison collaborates with academics, health and social care professionals and public advisers to develop a range of applied health and social care research ideas and on the subsequent design, development, delivery of project plans. She manages and monitors the work of the ARC NWC’s Methodological Support (MIDAS) Theme including its programme of research, training / support requirements, development of collaborative networks, and dissemination of its work. Alison is involved in co-producing evidence syntheses and is a lead author on publications investigating issues such as access to primary health care for people with learning disabilities; polypharmacy, multi-morbidities and deprescribing in primary care; child and adolescent mental health services, and psychological support interventions for those exposed to mass infectious disease outbreaks.
Alison has over 20 years’ previous experience of working in the public sector on various local authority and partnership programmes and projects in the fields of public health, health promotion, health inequalities, crime prevention, community safety and cohesion.
