Interested in exploring sustainable solutions in the bread and bakery supply chain? This upcoming event reports on the research of the Bread Waste Project, located in the University of Lancashire Business School and also features external speakers.

In the UK, around 25 million slices of bread are thrown away every single day (WRAP, 2023).

That’s an astonishing amount of wasted crusts, crumbs, and unrealised potential!

Bread is one of the nation’s most loved foods, yet it is also one of the most commonly wasted items. It also contributes significantly to food waste, carbon emissions, and unnecessary costs for households and businesses alike.

That’s why we’re excited to invite you to Crumbs of Change: Rethinking Bread Waste. Join us free of charge at this half-day event hosted by the Bread Waste Project at the University of Lancashire Business School.

This event brings together researchers, industry professionals, and members of the community to explore practical, innovative, and inspiring ways to make better use of surplus bread.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

  • Insights from the Bread Waste Project, including a model to optimise the bread & bakery supply chain.
  • Talks from external speakers on brewing beer from bread and tackling waste at the retail level.
  • Networking opportunities, with free refreshments and lunch provided.
  • Whether you’re an academic, a professional in the food industry, or simply curious about sustainability, this event is for anyone passionate about rethinking waste and making change.
